Local Student Wins!

jayda20091

Jayda B. of Eldridge placed First Place (First Grade Category)  in the 2009 Reading Rainbow Story Contest.

“We are thrilled that Jayda has once again placed as a national winner,” said WQPT Educational Outreach Director, Ana Kehoe. This is the second year in a row that Jayda has been a national winner. As a kindergartener, Jayda was a Third Place national winner.

For her original story, Jayda wrote, and drew pictures for “Gus and the Garbage Mountain,” the tale of a mouse named Gus and his friend, Cuddles who recycle, reduce, reuse and repair in order to save the planet. Read Jayda’s story online.

Jayda is one of only 12 authors selected from more than 35,000 Contest entrants nationwide.

Congratulations Jayda and all of our local participants. See the local winners.

Does Your Pet Speak to You?

martha_helen_hug

When Martha (of Martha Speaks) eats alphabet soup, the letters go to her brain and she speaks! Although your pet may not talk like Martha, it can communicate with you in a variety of ways. Tell us how your pet speaks to you. Watch Martha Speaks on WQPT Mondays through Thursdays at 4:00 p.m. View all of programs for kids.

Help us welcome Martha to the Quad Cities! She will be visiting the Bettendorf Public Library on Tuesday, September 15, from 4:00 – 5:00 p.m. Bring your camera and join in the free Story Time, games and activities.
